The SMG layer has been in the market place for over 15 years as a sound deadening, moisture barrier underlayment for Hard Wood and Laminate. Now, for Guestrooms we can fuse the SMG layer to any weight synthetic base giving the pad a closed cell moisture barrier. SMG also has inherent sound deadening characteristics- IIC of 70; STC of 65. For pennies, SMG is a terrific addition that will extend the life of the carpet, lower the maintenance and improve the guest experience. If you can prevent moisture from getting below the carpet pad and into the substrate, you will never have odors, mold or mildew.
